Boulder Beat Bulletin: Week of October 14, 2018

We are making a cookbook + need your help!

As a fundraiser for our urban garden, we will be compiling recipes from the families, staff, and friends of HFCS to create a cookbook! So far we’ve only had one family submit a recipe, but we need many more to create our cookbook!

Tardies: Affecting Learning for All

Ms. Videll has noticed a great increase of tardies lately and is concerned about how that is negatively affecting the learning experience and environment for all of our students. When a child is late to school, not only are they missing out on valuable instruction time, but it is a disruption to their routine and then a disruption to all of the students who arrived to school on time as that tardy child enters the classroom. Tardiness has negative effects on all of our students, even if they arrived on time.

For the benefit of all of our students and teachers, we urge you to help your child get to school on time. There are some strategies to prevent tardiness listed in the articles below.

Teacher Wishlists

We often have teachers or classes that need additional supplies for special projects, experiments, or enrichment that are not covered with our normal supply budget. We also sometimes have special needs for skills such as building items for the resource room, repairing items, painting etc...

All donations or time spent doing repairs to the school or classroom can be claimed as Time & Talent- which is due in less than two weeks on Friday, October 19.

Substitute Teachers Needed

Each school year, we try to build up our substitute teacher list. Click here to find information on requirements and compensation. If you know someone in our community who may be interested, please pass on the information. Contact Ms. Saleta Videll, 918-582-0422, if you have any questions.

Retakes have been rescheduled to October 15. You can still order pictures here.

Home & School Board Meeting Rescheduled

Join us on Thursday, October 11, at 5:30pm for this month’s Home & School Board Meeting. This is a great opportunity to be informed and to get involved in school events, especially if you need to earn Time & Talent hours before the end of this quarter.

The Walk-A-Thon is less just a few weeks away and pledges are due Friday, October 26!

Get Involved!

Volunteer to help make this Walk-A-Thon great and earn Time & Talent Hours. Roles vary from helping with event preparations, donating lap prizes, and day-of jobs, most not lasting the entirety of the event, allowing you to volunteer and earn Time & Talent Hours and spend time with your child(ren)!

There are still many roles that need to be filled!

Sample letter to friends and Families

You can use this letter and share via email or on social media to ask for online pledges on behalf of your child. All you need to do is input your child’s name where indicated! The link to the online donation page is already included in the letter.

Dear Friends and Family,

Please consider supporting [your child's name] and their wonderful school, Holy Family Cathedral School Academy of Arts & Sciences, through the 9th Annual Holy Family Cathedral School Home & School Walk-A-Thon on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. They will have up to 30 minutes to walk as many laps as possible, followed by lunch outside.

The Walk-A-Thon raises money for the Home & School Board to provide programs that may not otherwise be available to [your child's name] and her school. Through generous donors like you, the Home & School Association has been able to provide furniture for classrooms, support educational experiences, and sponsor family events for our whole school. These programs would not exist as they do without Home & School support. Last year's Walk-a-Thon raised over $13,000 for the school.

Your pledge is for a definite amount, not per lap. If everyone in the class collects pledges, then they will get an ice cream party!

You can make an online pledge at Just make sure that you put [your child’s name] in the “notes” box on the online form so that they get credit! Funds need to be turned in by Friday, October 26.

[your child's name] is excited to be walking laps for their school. I hope you’ll support their efforts.

Campus Ministry

Campus ministry now has it’s own Webpage!

When Mrs. Spoerl started coming to me three to four times a week with information or upcoming events about the HFCS Campus Ministry, I decided that it needed its own page on the website to keep track of all of the events and good news that Mrs. Spoerl wants to share with you!

Check it out by clicking here, or click “Campus Ministry” at the top of the website!

Foolish Things Coffee + Campus Ministry Fundraiser

We have another fundraising event coming up for our Campus Ministry, this time hosted by our beloved downtown neighbors, Foolish Things Coffee!

Stop by Foolish Things Coffee Co. between 8:30am and 2:00pm on Sunday, November 11, to enjoy coffee, breakfast or lunch and a portion of the cost of your purchase can be donated to the Holy Family Cathedral School Campus Ministry!

Foolish Things offers a full breakfast and lunch menu, perfect for an early breakfast, brunch, or lunch before or after you attend Mass that day!

Just mention that you are there to support Holy Family Cathedral School when you order.

Join us at Wednesdays at the Cathedral!

The weekly Wednesdays at Cathedral program was born out of a desire for every Catholic to more fully grasp the beauty of his faith and to grow a sense of community among parishioners and our school family. Weekly activities include a mixture of live speakers, engaging video series, faith sharing opportunities and feast day celebrations.

Off campus activities are also a regular part of our quarterly schedule, gathering for service opportunities or participating in Diocesan events. These family activities have included working side-by-side tilling and planting gardens at Catholic Charities, serving the working poor of Downtown Tulsa through Night Light Tulsa, and walking in procession praying for the souls of the faithful departed at Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Spoerl would like to invite our school community to join in this weekly faith and community formation each Wednesday evening that includes Mass, dinner, Eucharistic Adoration, and faith formation. Childcare is also provided if the formation activity is not appropriate for the age of your child.

Events are added and updated on our events page as information becomes available, or you can access information on the Holy Family Cathedral website and/or Facebook page.
